I have been sewing since my grandmother and great aunt started me on my first sampler at age six. I used to sew my own clothes until the children came along. My projects shifted to puppets and costumes and dolls. As the space needs of the family grew, I lost my sewing room and my projects ceased. That changed last fall.
I found some fantastic mandala fabric and knew the colors would be perfect for a friend's living room, so I purchased the material and made pillows. Because of the mandala pattern, I took special care, blessed the fabric, and Because I had just gotten my Reiki Master Attunement, I "attuned" the pillows for practice. She loved them and wanted more - and I made more for her and also to sell at our monthly labyrinth walks. They sold out quickly. When the fabric was gone, I could not find more, but I was drawn to some blue fabric with dragonflies on it. Dragonflies - symbol of transformation and enlightenment. Those sold out faster than I could have imagined.
Sacred Sewing was born, both as a concept and as a business. All my Reiki Pillows have sold, so for now, except for special-orders, I am going to be focusing on artistic labyrinths as far as Sacred Sewing goes. Right now I am focusing on Personal Intention Labyrinths of all sizes to display as examples in workshops. In the future I will be creating labyrinth and mandala pillows and hangings and maybe even quilts.
Oh, there is just not enough time in the day to do everything! That is the challenge!
Last week I ran into a great garage sale where I picked up quilting magazines - many years worth - with patterns and ideas for the fantastic nontraditional types of quilts I love. Quite a lovely gift from the Universe!
