Those who know me have seen a major change in my life over the past two years. I have become more outgoing and vocal. Rather than being tied to a computer, I have been doing a lot of public speaking. This is due to the impact that Toastmasters International has had on my life. I have changed so much that my 21 year old daughter joined because she wanted to get the benefits too. She is overcoming her fears of public speaking also.
The Life Learners Toastmasters group that I belong to - and am now President of - is hosting a community-wide event this Saturday, February 5th at Irondequoit Mall from 10 AM to 4 PM in our meeting place in the old Wilson Suede and Leather store. The event will be highlighting speakers from all over Upstate New York. There will be all kinds of information about joining Toastmasters, how to create a new club, and the benefits of belonging to Toastmasters. The regular Life Learners meeting will be held at 5:30.
I recommend Toastmasters to everyone. Not only does it help people overcome their fear of public speaking, but it improves listening, thinking, and leadership skills as well in a nurturing environment. Come on out and join us!
I'm a Toastmaster from NJ and I belong to a great group. Learning to speak effectively in public has opened so many doors to me, professionally and personally. I have to agree with you, Toastmaters fosters a greater awareness of speech, communication, listening, and leadership. Best of luck in your future speeches!
