Last month on the Solstice, we had dual labyrinth walks at the First Unitarian Church in Rochester. Our regular monthly Community Walk went on inside the chapel and I partnered with Anita Augesen and others to create and produce a Solstice walk.
At 5:45 that night there was a dedication ceremony for the beautiful new sod and brick labyrinth, and the paths ended up strewn with rose petals.
Our walk started at 7:45. There were readings, acknowledgements of the four directions and the circle of the year. We had sunflower seeds to carry inside the labyrinth as a symbol of what we want to grow in life. Sonam Targee played his flute, which gave a wonderful light to the entire proceedings.
The event was very well-received and we had a large turnout.
hi kay! i had only stopped by here one time in the sort of recent past, well, since meeting you i mean!, and now i have been able to spend some time roaming around. this is one beautiful, well put together website young lady! i really have enjoyed myself. now the next step in my life is to get involved in some of the wonderful things you are involved in!
my bookmarks are selling very well at craft company #6 by the way, and i look forward to putting them out again at the monthly labyrinth quest walk.
my husband and i recently joined the Unitarian church and we helped to create the labyrinth! quite a process...just ask my knees! unfortunately we were not able to attend the dedication ceremony on the solstice. by the way, another member of the UU church who was involved in the whole labyrinth process from the beginning has come up with a series of dates this summer for anyone who is interested to get together to really USE our outdoor labyrinth: i believe august 2 is the next date...well, actually the FIRST date, as we were rained out on july 12th. she has suggested that anyone who wants to come bring some art supplies...spend a couple hours walking and drawing and enjoying each others company. i will get back in touch with you to let you know if the date changes, but unless there is another torrential downpour, we will be there. i was thinking everyone should bring candles too , in holders, and we could light the labyrinth! i have always wanted to do that, walk a labyrinth by candlelight.
well, again, beautiful website, keep up the good work! i look forward to seeing you soon....ooh, next week! speaking of which, is labyrinth quest on monday or tuesday of next week? i am going to try to find that information now but maybe you could drop me an email just in case? thanks kay! blesed be!
